Financial advice and strategies for winning a “Fair Share” in a divorce settlement

Kirkland, Wash. - More than 1.1 million women face divorce in the United States each year. Most of them approach the end of their marriages emotionally and pay little attention to the financial implications that they will face as a single person. That approach can be disastrous, according to Kathleen Miller, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) with more than 30 years experience helping divorcing couples divide their assets.

“Studies show that a woman’s standard of living drops following a divorce. Meanwhile, divorced women with children are particularly vulnerable to bankruptcy,” Miller says. Women can beat this trap by looking for financial help and developing a plan for moving forward, according to Miller.

“It is never too late to take charge of your own divorce, no matter where you are in the process,” Miller says. “Seeking out financial counseling and help during your divorce means taking back your personal power and providing a greater ability to get on with your life.”

Having helped more than 3,000 couples divide their assets, Miller has developed expertise and insight on the modern marriage as well as financial strategies to assure a fair division of assets. In her book Fair Share Divorce for Women, Second Edition, Miller offers financial tools, strategies and updated case studies that integrate all the financial aspects of divorce into a contemporary plan that any woman can follow.

Her advice includes:
* Get organized as soon as possible
* Understand the five stages of divorce and how to cope with each stage
* Take charge of the process, manage your lawyers and save legal fees
* Establish child support and parenting plans that protect the kids and their standard of living as well

Miller also offers advice about what to do with the settlement money, as well as proven financial planning tools, checklists, and charts to help women prepare an action plan for post-divorce life. She also dedicates and entire chapter to the modern marriage including information about second marriages, corporate wives, and challenges for women who are primary earners for their families.
