Local financial advisor Kathleen Miller named one of
The Top 100 Wealth Advisors in America by WORTH Magazine
Kirkland, Wash. -Kathleen Miller, president of Miller Advisors, Inc., has been named to WORTH Magazine’s 2007 list of the Top 100 Wealth Advisors. Miller is one of two wealth managers from Washington state on the list, which was published in the October 2007 edition of the magazine.
“Each year, WORTH honors financial strategists who go above and beyond mere service to their clients. We recognize those who offer wise counsel, consistency and integrity. Simply put, they are the best at what they do,” wrote Douglas McWhirter, WORTH features editor.
Miller has been a financial advisor and wealth manager for more than 30 years. She has developed a specialty in assisting women through life transitions such divorce, remarriage, disability, retirement and the death of a spouse. In addition to founding and managing Miller Advisors, Inc., she has published numerous articles and two books to assist women with money management skills. Her books Fair Share Divorce for Women and Fair Share Divorce for Women, Second Edition: The Definitive Guide to Creating a Winning Solution have sold more than 25,000 copies.
“The traditional business model of financial planning and wealth management does not accommodate the needs of affluent women,” Miller said.
Typically, financial planners and investment managers have employed financial jargon such as “risk aversion” and “percentage returns” without relating these terms to a woman’s goals, passions and individual needs, according to Miller.
“Women think about money differently. We are interested in discussing our passions and life challenges, then relating how our money will support those opportunities. It is a very different way of focusing on the same issues of returns and risks, but the basic concepts of financial planning still apply,” she said.
To qualify for the magazine’s list, wealth advisors provide extensive information about their practices to WORTH for evaluation. The judging criteria includes educational and professional credentials, work history, compensation structure, client retention rate and the ability to intelligently discuss the current investment climate and strategies for success. Nominees also provide a list of current clients as references.
